Jokowi Inaugurates Makassar New Port, the Largest Port in Eastern Indonesia

Jokowi said that logistics costs in Indonesia were still at 24 percent 10 years ago. This is because the locations between ports, industrial areas and factories are not integrated with each other so that logistics costs become inefficient.

"Makassar New Port is the largest after Tanjung Priok. Its depth is 16 meters, it is also the deepest port which is very good for large ships to dock to transport containers," he said.

Apart from logistics costs, the former Mayor of Solo also appreciated the dwelling time which had fallen from seven days to under three days.

Regarding capacity, Jokowi said Makassar New Port also has a capacity of up to 2.5 million TEUs so it is hoped that it can compete with large ports in other countries.
